Im willing to bet that your first reaction from looking at this picture is somewhere along the lines of shock, but what Daikichi Amano is illustrationg through photography is a form of Shunga, which is an ancient form of Japanese erotic art. In Amano’s shunga you will almost always find a beautiful siren in some warrior-like posture enveloped by some object or animal… in this case Octopus. Culture Shock!
