Funny how much can change in a year.  This time last year Quinlan Wilhite (founder of Qmulative.blogspot.com) was filming his interning experience at street wear outlets and getting connections in Los Angeles.  Today he’s making his first contribution to fashion with his ‘Summer Snapback’ (collaborative piece with Front Line Exclusive).

This is my latest music video for a Metallica sounding band based in the US. Shot with a 7D and 5 lenses. We built a mirror style set for about $3000 US dollars. All lighting editing, camera operations, directing, set design, casting, and production coordination was done by me. Edit was done with FCP 6.0 on an old 2007 MacBook. Please feel free to watch and comment on all aspects of the video, content, editing, camerawork, etc… suggestions on my next music video…positive and negative comments are all appreciated.

“I brief demo with the Georgia Guitar Quartet & Robert Sims.

As a pianist I have collaborated with Robert since 1997 – we are long time friends/colleagues. His talent is immeasurable. In 1999 he won the Gold Medal in the American Traditions Competition, in Savannah, Georgia. He also made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2005, and returned to Carnegie Hall in 2009 as a guest of Jessye Norman, as part of her HONOR! festival. I was fortunate to play the piano for him on his second appearance, and this was my Carnegie Hall debut. We’re performing together in Gibraltar this month (Dec. 20)!

His new partnership with the GGQ is nothing less than extraordinary. Their arrangements are completely original: with Southern twang and classical arch! Their artistry is of the highest calibre.

Caleb Vinson (Vimeo user) and I filmed this with two Canon 7D’s, in Dekalb, Illinois. The audio was recorded live.

Caleb’s exceptional camera moves are his trademark. I have not seen anyone use a DSLR the way he does: it proves that with practice and discipline it is possibe to achieve extremely fluid and unique moves. Well done Caleb!

The project proposes the use of unused or abandoned space as the site of a temporary gallery.
It is designed to be assembled and disassembled as it is relocated from place to place.
The gridded structure provides display spaces which could be used, for example, to advertise for local businesses, events, etc, by way of flyers or booklets or to display work by local artists.
It also incorporates digital screens and audio devices.
The body provides seating areas / lounge space as a means to strengthen the concept of a “platform”
for the community, whether it be a place to gather or a forum for young artists to promote their work

This past summer we had the pleasure of featuring Director Daniel Henry.  He spoke about his inspiration, directors he admires and most importantly his most recent film Figure/Ground.

Synopsis: While trying to survive in the current of our down-turned economy, Jim (Jake Goings), a young artist on his own, finds the shades of gray that coat the decisions he makes. Discovering a way to stay afloat and stay true to himself can be harder than it seems. Set in the real streets and stores of the south, the film’s vérité style reveals the reality of Jim’s circumstances.

The screening for Figure/Ground or ‘Figgy’ as Daniel calls it was last night (10-25-10) and I was able to film the Q&A session that came afterwards.
