A unique collaboration between GAIA&GINO, London-based designer Sebastian Bergne and Swarovski Elements. GAIA&GINO is the first company using the new “Crystal Rocks” product of SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS in the world. London-based designer Sebastian Bergne was inspired by a visit to the Iznik factories in Turkey and he turned to quartz ceramics for this project to introduce a range of bowls and vases. Bergne has, however, applied his usual rigor and created pared-down designs incorporating the “Nazar” charm that traditionally protects the owner from the evil eye or bad luck. In this collection, GAIA&GINO used Turkish heritages both in material and concept. The “Iznik quartz ceramics” –a material with a thousand year old tradition- is reinterpreted by Bergne in a very Turkish concept “evil eye” and universalized for the first time in a contemporary design object. “Iznik work and the Nazar symbol are really important in Turkish culture, so both struck a chord. The EYE collection will be produced in a “limited edition of 250 pieces” for large units and as a “limited edition of 300 pieces” for small ones, each numbered from 1-250/300.

I’ve been following the Trey Songz: My Moment series since Episode 1.  Good to see him making it to the top…

Allen Edmonds.  A name synonymous with dress shoes made here in the U.S with the utmost eye for detail and quality.  Now, see them in a more relaxed casual light, but don’t underestimate what they can do when they’re not doing “dressy” shoes.  This time they go off and do a “MLB” collection inspired off a baseball.  The detail put into each of these shoes and the realism it combines with it’s inspiration is very unique.  The first pair actually look like a distressed ball with the stitching and other elements, and then you also get one that looks exactly like a new ball with new leather, etc.  Now, never again will you underestimate and think that Allen Edmonds is simply “an amazing dress shoe brand”, but they’re much more than that; they’re innovators in terms of design.

Featured above is the Fall 2010 capsule collection between Jil Sander and Uniqlo.  Uniqlo is typically known for it’s simple, trendy clothing that comes at very reasonable prices.  The collection is extremely simple with minimalistic details and is made with great fabrics. Look out for this collaboration between the two and it should be hitting the stores within the next weeks.

Really cool concept for those who are in situations where they cant make out whats being said by someone.

BabelFisk is essentially speech recognition software tied in with hearing aid algorithms that help recognize speech in the midst of white noise. Once words are heard, they’re converted to text on the fly. Embedded controllers turn this heavy task into an easily manageable one, while 2 microphones work together to show which direction the sound is coming from.

And if you’d like to get creative, you could use this lovely device for your schoolwork or office work. BabelFisk can be used to take dictation at meetings and lectures, saving the sound info on flash memory in both audio and text format. Super fabulous and awesome for both the hearing impaired and those students covering for their lazy roommates!
